Winter Wednesday: Mid-Winter Blooms.

A colourful discovery in the garden:
A jonquil...

A pig-face...

And a native creeper (whose name I've no idea),
all in bloom.

The first sign of spring, perhaps?
I'm amazed they've survived the frost, to be honest.

"Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!"
~Thomas Blackburn

  1. You are lucky to have a bit of colour in your garden. Could your creeper be a native lilac? Not sure but it looks familiar...

  2. Yeah my jonquils are coming up too. I have the same creeper in my garden. I dont know what is called either. My dad planted it. Thanks for visiting.

  3. Noticed some of my bulbs (which I planted some years ago and forgot about, but they pop up each year) getting ready to bloom soon. I also grew up with that native creeper, but don't know the name either.

  4. Lovely vine! It's a Hardenbergia, or Happy Wanderer, one of my Australian favourites :)

  7. Hey Sorcha, thanks for visiting over at mine, lovely to hear from you......

Always nice to have a bit of colour in the garden over the Winter months.

I have planted a Happy Wanderer by a tree stump out on the verge and we have half a dozen flower spikes. It's going to look lovely in a season or two. They are such hardy plants.

Nice verse by Thomas Blackburn too.

Enjoy the rest of your week,

    Claire :}
